Project Name: Federal Inspection Services Building
Project Owner: Houston Airport System

Project Description: As the largest single Federal Inspection Services (FIS) facility in the United States, the two-story (with partial basement) facility encompasses over 700,000 square feet and is connected by skybridges to Terminal "D" and Terminal "E". The project included an attached parking structure with roadway and access ramp lighting. HHEC was responsible for the electrical power distribution, lighting and fire systems design for the new $155 million FIS/Central Ticketing building at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Project Name: Houston Light Rail Transit System
Project Owner: METRO (Metropolitan Transit Authority)
Project Location: Houston, Texas
Project Description: HHEC provided professional engineering design services for Line Section No. 2 of Houston's first light rail transit line, METRORail. Line Section No. 2 begins at Holly Hall (adjacent to Reliant Park) and continues north 2.5 miles through the Texas Medical Center (TMC) and includes five (5) stations. HHEC MEP design responsibilities and scope of work included: (1) Providing electrical consulting to interpret and utilize existing electrical directive drawings; (2) Designing station and platform lighting; (3) Developing grounding and lightning protection systems; and (4) Detail design of the plumbing and floor and roof drain systems.
In addition to Line Section No. 2, HHEC provided MEP design services for the TMC Transit Facility Galen Structure. This project involved the extension of the Galen Station for connection to the TMC Transit Station.
Project Name: NPDES Storm Water Discharge Permit Implementation
Project Owner: City of Houston
Project Location: Houston, Texas
Project Description: HHEC participates in the ongoing screening of City of Houston outfalls during dry and wet weather conditions, sampling and testing of City of Houston outfalls and evaluation of existing procedures to prevent, contain and respond to spills that may discharge into the storm water system.
Project Name: Cotswold 2000
Project Owner: Houston Downtown Management District
Project Location: Houston, Texas
Project Description: The Cotswold project plays a major role in the revitalization of Downtown Houston by encouraging pedestrian activity in the north end of downtown. A signature water amenity is located in the Market Square and Courthouse areas with linkages to Buffalo Bayou and Minute Maid Park. Landscaping and streetscape improvements create a campus-like environment. As lead MEP design consultant, HHEC provided detail design and construction administration services.

Project Location: Houston, Texas
Project Description: Detail engineering and drafting to install a High Temperature Reactor and Dowtherm G Heating System.
Project Name: Ocean Engineering Laboratory
Project Owner: Texas A&M University
Project Location: College Station, Texas
Project Description: Conceptual design study, preliminary engineering and cost estimate to replace the existing Coastal Engineering Laboratory with a new 28,000 square foot laboratory. The laboratory facility included several specialty systems: Dredge Loop, Water Distribution System, 3D Wave Basin, Towing Tank and Wind/Wave Tank. As prime design consultant, HHEC worked very closely with the user group to define the project and scope of work.
Project Name: Kashmere Bus Operating Facility Improvement
Project Owner: METRO (Metropolitan Transit Authority)
Project Location: Houston, Texas
Project Description: This project involved the comprehensive renovation and upgrade of the building appointments, appurtenances and equipment in the Kashmere Bus Operating Facility Administration Building (12,000 sq. ft.). The scope included: lighting, air distribution, HVAC and plumbing systems.
Project Name: Sugar Land Branch Library
Project Owner: Fort Bend County
Project Location: Sugar Land, Texas
Project Description: As lead MEP design consultant, HHEC provided detail mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design for this new 21,000 square foot library. HHEC participated in a value-engineering process with contractor input.
Project Name: 3300 Main Renovation
Project Owner: City of Houston
Project Location: Houston, Texas
Project Description: The project involved the comprehensive renovation of a three (3) story, 50,000 square foot administration building. As lead MEP design consultant, HHEC provided detail design and construction administration to upgrade the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The upgrade required replacing chillers, the cooling tower and circulating pumps.
Project Name: Safety Evaluation of Laboratory Facilities
& Operations
Project Owner: Texas Department of Health
Project Location: Austin, Texas
Project Description: The objective of the project was to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the laboratory physical structures and operating procedures for potential safety hazards associated with four (4) buildings. This investigation was initiated and expedited because of a potentially dangerous gas leak in one (1) laboratory facility.
The investigation included a review of the existing facilities' drawings (i.e. mechanical, electrical and plumbing); and safety documents (safety, asbestos and emergency response plans); a physical site inspection; review of applicable safety codes; site evaluation; and report of findings.
